Since restrictions on gatherings were starting to be lifted in June, Ohio has served as a destination comedy haven for some of the biggest names in the business. Put on by Dave Chappelle, he has welcomed guests that have included Tiffany Haddish, Michael Che, Donnell Rawlings, and Michelle Wolf who all perform stand-up for a socially distanced outdoor crowd. (All performers are tested for COVID-19 and the crowd all endures temperature checks upon entry).
Well, he outdid himself last week, as Chris Rock shared on Instagram that he flew to Ohio to do a show with Chappelle. And at the end of the show, Rock and Chappelle joined together onstage to offer an even bigger surprise for the already imaginably-elated crowd when they FaceTimed Jim Carrey. “He closed the show,” Rock states.
Whether or not the phrase “closed the show” means that Carrey, whose new book Memoirs and Misinformation came out earlier this month, did any stand-up remains to be seen. While he was a guest on Lights Out w/David Spade back in February, Spade posed the question to Carrey if he’d ever return to stand-up to film a new special. “Anything’s possible,” Carrey responded.
Whether or not he returns to the stage, the crowd in Yellow Springs, Ohio certainly got their money’s worth with this show!
