Dave Chappelle holds nothing back in his “Saturday Night Live” monologue
November 8, 2020 Andrew Buss Dave Chappelle, Saturday Night Live
Yesterday was a big day, as we got news that Joe Biden would become the 46th President of the United States. As this news came in around noon Eastern Time, we imagine the vibe at 30 Rock was a mix of celebrating as well as scrambling to completely change what they had prepared to accommodate this breaking news.
Chappelle’s monologue on Saturday Night Live was no different. As he takes the stage, cigarette in hand as if he was in an old school night club where you could still do that, he talks about how it’s been a “pretty incredible day”. He then segues into his 15 minute set, talking about what his great grandfather would think if he was here today, how COVID has “locked these murderous whites up and keep them in the house”, his outdoor shows this summer, white people not wearing a mask, Donald Trump’s optimism, how Donald Trump reacted to getting COVID, how Chris Christie “got all the fixings”, his “kindness conspiracy” plan, before ending it by getting real for the last minute and a half.
All in all, as anticipated, Dave Chappelle is the host that we needed right now. His voice, not just in comedy but as a human being, is almost like a light that can help guide us through the dark times. Also, he happens to be one of the funniest and biggest names in stand-up that we have right now. That also helps. And judging from just how on fire the audience was, where you could actually feel that electricity sitting at home, we can tell that we’re not the only people that feels this way. It was a perfect way to end this stretch of 6 shows.
