Back in September, an unnamed buyer purchased the former Miami Township fire station in Yellow Springs, Ohio. And now, that unnamed buyer has a name. Dave Chappelle. And he’s turning it into a comedy club.
YSNews reports that the comedian and his Iron Table Holdings company will convert the space into a restaurant and comedy club, including an outdoor patio. The capacity of 140 people seems tailor made for these times as well. The plan is to turn it into a “brick and mortar” version of what Chappelle had been doing this summer with his socially distanced outdoor shows. But from the sounds of it, in addition to the big names that Chappelle will be able to bring in, they will also be showcasing local talent who don’t have a place to perform.
“We believe it is the best and highest use of the fire station space, as an entertainment venue that does not directly compete with local businesses, and it helps draw additional commercial activity into the Central Business District,” said Lisa Abel, YSDC’s board president, in a release.
“From the board’s standpoint, it was the best impact for economic development,” Abel continued. “The board was excited with this proposal.”
Additionally, Chappelle has also purchased two other properties around town, but no usage for them have been announced just yet. We wouldn’t be surprised if similar plans will get unveiled for those as well, though. We’ll just have to wait and see, we guess.
