Last night Dave Chappelle took home the Grammy for Best Comedy Album for his special Sticks & Stones, for the third year in a row. Remember when it was just a few years back when we had gone over a decade without anything new from Chappelle? Now it’s an embarrassment of riches. For the last couple of years the award was actually televised instead of being relegated to the daytime ceremony. The reason possibly being due to the star power the category pulls in. Last night alone, nominees Trevor Noah, Jim Gaffigan, and Ellen DeGeneres were on hand to present performers and hopefully take home the award. But in the end it was Chappelle, who was not on hand to make a speech… or was he.
Chappelle didn’t take the stage to accept his award but a while later many spotted him in the audience right behind musician Tanya Tucker who was the one on stage accepted the award on his behalf. Don’t believe us? Watch this fan vid.
So, if Chappelle was present in the building but didn’t take the stage to accept his award, what was the reason? Was he late? Did he have a show across town? Political boycott? Personal boycott? Time to let the conspiracy theories fly.
