Dave Hill is a man of many talents. A stand-up and storyteller, he hosts WFMU’s Goddamn Dave Hill Show and he’s authored several bestselling books. He’s also an amazing musician, quite honestly one of the best guitar players I’ve ever seen live (I saw him do a set at Bridgetown a few years ago that blew my mind) and he’s got a fun new music project, called Painted Doll.
His partner in Painted Doll is Chris Reifert, a prolific metal musician who drummed on Death’s debut album, Scream Bloody Gore, and who’s performed with bands like Autopsy and Abscess and over the years.
Painted Doll is a departure from Reifert’s other projects, inspired by obscure Euro psych from the early 70s, with reverb-heavy guitar and dreamy vocals.
In January, Hill announced their new music venture on his blog, saying they’ve already recorded a full album, and now Painted Doll has released their first music video – which features a pretty extended opening sketch.
“Together Alone,” above, is Painted Doll’s first video, but you can check out a few more tunes on their Soundcloud.
