Desus Nice fills in for Jimmy Kimmel, jokes about getting fired by Showtime

August 16, 2022      Andrew Buss      News, Television

A few weeks ago, we learned that sadly the Bodega Boys are no more. After four seasons on Showtime, Desus & Mero not only ended their popular Showtime talk show, but seemed to have a falling out.

For the first time being out onstage solo, Desus Nice filled in for Jimmy Kimmel last night. And during the monologue, he even made a few references to his former show.

“Listen, it’s weird to be hosting a show on network TV because I was on Showtime for the past four years, where they pretty much let you say what the f**k you want,” Nice said. “Guillermo, can I say whatever the f**k I want on ABC?”

Guillermo quipped back, “I don’t think so, but you’re not coming back tomorrow so who gives a f**k.”

Later on in the monologue, while talking about the FBI raid at Mar-A-Lago, Nice talked about being fired by Showtime.

“When you get fired from the office, you don’t get to take the Xerox machine home with you. When I got fired from Showtime, they don’t let me bring home the cast of Shameless,” he said.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Nice did so well and seemed within his element, as he did spend four years co-hosting his own show. But it was great to see that he is also more than capable of being able to take the reins sans a co-host. We hope to see more talk show hosting from Nice in the future!
