We reported earlier that Donald Glover was departing Community this season to focus on other endeavors. While Glover himself nor the producers of the show didn’t really give much information as to why exactly he was leaving, many speculated it was to focus on his burgeoning rap career as Childish Gambino. Not too long after this news, Glover inked a deal to develop and star in a new FX sketch comedy show. Others also speculated that it might just be plain burnout since Glover, a usually very social being retreated heavily from sharing on social media.
Well last night via his Instagram account Glover penned what looks like they could be lyrics to a song in addition to a rambly sorta-explanation why he left the show all on hotel stationary. Stating (amongst other things) that it wasn’t because of rap, his record getting pushed back and continued to cite everything from illness, seeing people die, feeling helpless, and trying to follow his own blueprint. He also stated that he has a lot of fears. Well damn, now I just have more questions than answers really.
You can read all of the posts on Glover’s Instagram. If it really is illness and burntoutedness, then by all means, take a breather. Nobody wants to see you go down a dark path.
