Well, it’s finally happening. Back in 2014 we reported that comedian Mike Epps would be playing Richard Pryor in an upcoming biopic about the comedic legend. A couple months later in October of 2014, Epps went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and discussed the project. Now, it’s been confirmed that comedian and actor Eddie Murphy has joined the cast. Originally, he was set to play Pryor in an earlier biopic that was in development. Now he’s attached as the role of Pryor’s father. As for other family members, Oprah Winfrey will play Pryor’s grandmmother and Kate Hudson will play Jennifer Lee Pryor. Empire‘s infamous character “Cookie”, Taraji P. Henson, (Empire) is also set to star but her role is still unannounced. Production starts in March of 2016 and will be directed by Lee Daniels (The Butler, Empire, The Paperboy). The greelight is on and things are moving forward.
