Eddie Murphy has been having somewhat of a comeback the last few years. From Dolemite is my Name to hosting Saturday Night Live to Coming 2 America, and the forthcoming Beverly Hills Cop 4, Murphy has been more productive than he’s been in years. Now, he’s in talks to star in another familiar project.
Yesterday it was announced that Murphy is in talks to star in a remake of The Pink Panther. The film is set to be directed by Jeff Fowler, with a script by Chris Bremner. The film is rumored to be a live action/CGI hybrid, and will find Inspector Clouseau and the Pink Panther teaming up for a buddy cop style movie.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a remake of the Peter Sellers classic. In 2006, Steve Martin starred as Clouseau, and even helmed a sequel. Both movies, however, were nearly universally panned by critics.
It’ll be interesting to see how this new incarnation shapes up. The original movies are classics, and if there’s one thing the internet is vocal about, it’s about remaking classics.
