After the popularity of Coming 2 America earlier this year, this news isn’t too surprising.
Eddie Murphy has signed a new deal with the studio to star in three films, and also a first look deal to create and possibly star in projects of his own. This is all a part of Murphy’s recent comeback that started with Dolemite is my Name back in 2019.
“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. We could not be more excited to help carry on the tradition and to officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family.”
The deal also finds Murphy with relationship that now stem between Netflix and Amazon. Over at Netflix, with whom he made Dolemite, he has a deals for a stand-up special, Beverly Hills Cop 4, and a new movie with Jonah Hill. Plus, there’s also a new documentary that is following his return to the stage after over 30 years.
So safe to say the next few years will be very busy for Eddie Murphy.
