Spec scripts are a staple of any aspiring comedy writer trying to get staffed. The writer is usually trying to emulate the voice of the show, proving they can write funny and work within a predefined structure. However, if you’re not currently staffing up a writers’ room, the funniest spec scripts you can find are the ones that would NEVER end up on TV, but still (sometimes) maintain the voice of the show.
Here are some of the best you can find online…
1. Ben Rosen’s Frasier the Cannibal
Rosen was inspired to write this incredible script after realizing that Hannibal Lector is basically just “Frasier Crane who eats people.” An honorable mention goes to Rosen’s Friends script about Gunther, the coffee shop guy where we learn why his name isn’t “Knife”-ther.
2. Jordan VanDina’s En2ourage
VanDina is known for his fake scripts, notably his Fast and Furious parody where the gang meets Hitler, Fast Nein: The Fast and the Fuhrer. His Entourage script is also excellent and just what the world needed, an Entourage movie sequel: En2ourage.
3. Carey O’Donnell’s “Leaked” Friends reunion script
This script is the only Friends episode brave enough to kill off Chandler.
4. Joe Adams’ It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia “The Gang Storms the Capitol” episode
Written just three weeks after the insurrection, Adams imagines how the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Gang would somehow find themselves inside the Capitol.
5. Achilles Stamatelaky’s Game of Thrones excerpt
No plot, just an excellent “Who’s On First” rendition.
