Ugh, that’s rough.
Yea, twelve hours on four hours of sleep is not fun. It was not fun. (Laughs) It was not fun at all, but it’s all worth it because then I get to Madison and in Madison is where I begin the best comedy weekend, like the dream comedy weekend that every comic wants. Everything about it is great. It was the Comedy Club on State and everyone had told me, “Best club in the country man, best club ever1” It’s like, “Yea f*cking whatever, what are you talking about? I’ve done clubs, I’ve done good clubs…” but it is.
That’s all I hear! Just different comics rave and rave about that club. I’m jealous, I knew you’d have a great time there.
It’s like, they pack it out… first of all, they fill it and part of that certainly was because I was opening for Kyle Kinane who is now getting huge for a reason. He’s one of the best comics — I’ve argued, “the” best. So great, also we did five shows and they were all either sold out or like one open seat or something. It was f*cking crazy. The way the place is laid out, and the way they treat the audience, you feel warm and welcome in there but also you feel like, “I need to shut the f*ck up.” There’s just something about the crowds there, they’re all down to get drunk and have fun, but also to be quiet for the most part and hear some weird sh*t. They were just down for anything, it was so great. Plus, they put me up in the nicest hotel in the world! So it was just amazing, I’m opening for one of my favorite comedians, who is also a friend of mine, a great dude, at the best club in the world, staying at this beautiful hotel. I wake up every day at noon and I’m like, “I’m king of the f*cking world man, this is awesome, this is heaven,” then I’d go walk around downtown Madison which is beautiful and has all this interesting sh*t, restaurants everywhere and weird art pieces out in public. Also, it’s a big college town, like random college kids speaking into a microphone about how the two party system is failing, and even the homeless guys were nice. Like one guy was like, “Hey man, you got any change?” And I was like, “i actually don’t,” and he goes “Hey no big deal man, thanks though, thanks for you’re time,” and I’m like, “How did you become this way?” So it was great, it was worth the twelve hour drive. I showed up, I was just insane, I felt insane. Kyle gets there and he’s like, “How ya doing buddy?” and I’m like, “I don’t even, I don’t think I’m gonna stay awake for my set.” I get up there, I barely remember it, but the crowd was like, “Yea we’re into this. Let’s do this, awesome, what’s he saying? This man is crazy, we love it.” It was great.
Oh yea, and the show was hosted by this comic Stacey Kulow. She was hilarious, that’s another thing, she was the host and, ya know, when you’re on the road you never know what you’re going to get, and she was amazing! She was hilarious. She had a joke that I had been quoting, that I will continue to quote, I’m not going to say it here, but go see Stacey Kulow! She’s so great and she’s just a regular at that club.
Sounds great! Now you’re on a leg of your tour opening up for Kinane at a few places.
Yea, he’s doing this tour right now “The Great, Plain Tour.” He had a few dates in Indiana and Wisconsin before Madison and then we met up in Madison, and I’m featuring for him at six rock clubs in a row in different cities. We did Iowa City last night, we’re doing Des Moines tonight, I’m opening for him at all of those and it’s obviously the best. The show last night in Iowa City was unreal. It was like a room full of Kyle Kinane fans, also a sold out show, he sold out this place called The Mill in Iowa City, which by the way seems to be a fun a** city, at least from my perspective. Packed house, all these people who were drinking and f*cking into it. I’m having the best sets of my life is the thing. Comedy is so fun right now.
Yea, it seems every week you just keep having “the best show ever” followed by the new “best show ever.”
I just keep having the best shows. I feel bad I couldnt give Pittsburgh my all, but other than that, best show of my life after best show of my life.
