It’s that time of year again… the time when the New York Comedy Festival announces the initial part of its lineup. The festival is made up of hundreds of comedians over the course of a week in New York this November but the first wave of performers tends to be it’s big, marquee shows and this year’s lineup (its 16th) is just as big and impressive as ever.
If you wanted to pick a theme this year, you could go with Late Night talk show hosts having a big presence as Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Maher are all set to perform. In addition, Comedy Bang! Bang!’s NYC stop on its 10 year anniversary tour announced last week as well as Kevin Smith and Jay Mewes adding a stop on their Jay & Silent Bob Reboot tour on the map.
The festival will also host some absolute gunslinger stand-up comedy from the likes of Nate Bargatze, Vir Das, Kathleen Madigan, Demetri Martin, Norm McDonald, Tom Segura, Jenny Slate, Bill Maher, and Nicole Byer. Additionally, we’ll see variety comedy shows and podcast from Randy Rainbow, Benito Skinner, No Such Thing As A Fish, and Betches Media’s U Up? Live.
While that would be more than enough for any regular comedy festival, this is New York and they have an entire lineup of club performers at venues all over the city that will be announced in the coming weeks along with their annual charity, Stand Up For Heroes which has traditionally pulled out the heavy hitters like Bruce Springsteen, Jon Stewart, Jim Gaffigan, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Carr.
“As we mark 16 years of the New York Comedy Festival, we celebrate the varied and diverse talent – both up-and-coming and established stars – who continue to come out to put on a great show each and every year,” said Caroline Hirsch, founder and owner of the New York Comedy Festival and Carolines on Broadway. “We’ve always supported and championed those in the industry, and we’re excited to continue to bring the very best comedic talent to entertain comedy fans this November.”
“Nothing beats being able to perform stand-up comedy in New York to some of the best audiences in the world, and that’s what this festival is. I can’t wait.” said comedian and television host, Trevor Noah, who will be headlining the festival’s largest venue, Madison Square Garden, as part of his “Loud & Clear” Tour, on Friday, November 8.
