“Freaks & Geeks” is coming to Hulu, with its original soundtrack left intact

January 20, 2021      Andrew Buss      News, Television

Freaks & Geeks is widely considered one of the greatest depictions of what it’s like to be a teenager. This is despite the fact that it only lasted for 18 one-hour episodes from 1999 until 2000 on NBC. And let’s not forget the cast of then-no names that went onto become all stars that includes James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Martin Starr, Busy Phillips, John Francis Daly, and Samm Levine.

Another part of what made the series so special was its incredible soundtrack, which included great tunes from The Who, The Grateful Dead, The Moody Blues, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, Styx, XTC, Cheap Trick, and Rush. And now, starting next week, you can watch all 18 episodes on Hulu with the original soundtrack left in place. (Oftentimes in reruns, some of the soundtrack would be replaced by less-costly options).

In a statement to the A.V. Club, the show’s creator Paul Feig said “I’m so thrilled that Hulu is bringing Freaks And Geeks back to the [airwaves] with the original music. For me, the thought of our show without all the original music intact is like running the series with several of the characters cut out. The music is as big a part of this show as the writing and the performances. This is the only way to see our show and I can’t thank Hulu enough for putting us back on the air.”

The show streams on Hulu starting January 25th.
