Fred Armisen’s sketch series “Portlandia” finds home on IFC

The IFC channel has given the greenlight for 6 episodes of Portlandia, the original short-based comedy series about Portland Oregon.
The series stars Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen and musician Carrie Brownstein (best known for her time in Sleater-Kinney). The show will feature cameos from the likes of Kyle MacLachlan, Aubrey Plaza and Portland’s mayor himself Sam Adams. Armisen and Brownstein will write the show (they’ve written together in the past on a project called Thunderant) along with Aison Silverman (The Colbert Report), and Johnathan Krisel (SNL Digital Shorts, Tim And Eric, Awesome Show, Great Job!) directing the series.
SNL bigman Lorne Michaels will act as the executive producer. The show will be shot on location in hipsterville Portland and expected to wrap before the new season of SNL begins this September.
Given Armisen’s pedigree for music, Brownstein’s involvement, and Portland being a current hotbed for indie rock, we’re thinking this show will have itself a solid soundtrack as well.
