One of the most unique and visible comedic voices on television is off to a fantastic start in Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Breaking up late-night’s all-male sausage fest, this new show from the longtime Daily Show correspondent features Samantha’s nuanced view of political and cultural issues, her sharp interview skills, her repartee with world leaders and, of course, her 10-pound lady balls. If you haven’t been watching, start.
Full Frontal shares a studio with Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and Bee’s offices previously housed Stephen Colbert and his staff while renovations were taking place at the Ed Sullivan Theater for the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Full Frontal is the only currently airing late-night talk show in the United States which is hosted by a woman.
Bee hired Jo Miller and Miles Kahn, formerly producers of The Daily Show, as executive producers for her new show. They set up a blinded process for hiring writers that hid the gender and experience level of the applicants, resulting in a writing staff that is approximately half female and 30% non-white. The show is written by Samantha Bee, Ashley Nicole Black, Pat Cassels, Mathan Erhardt, Joe Grossman, Joe Miller, Jason Reich and Melissa Taub.
Now on to last night’s episode, Bee tackled Black History Month, abortion, and looked back at the 2010 election. And if you really want to dig in, you can take “The Office” tour.
In this first clip, we get a look into accomplishments of African-Americans who get their annual bite-sized morsel of the calendar.
In this next clip, we get a better understanding that everything’s big in Texas, except for the amount of knowledge about healthcare or women’s bodies required to completely gut abortion access.
The boring, who-cares midterm snoozefest that was the most important election of your lifetime is featured here in this next clip:
And now it’s time to meet the folks that bring Full Frontal to your screen of choice each week in this final clip, “The Office Tour”:
