“Girls Trip 2” is officially happening, taking place in Ghana

January 24, 2023      Andrew Buss      Movies, News

After being a hit with both audiences and critics back in 2017 – which helped turn Tiffany Haddish into a household name -, a sequel to Girls Trip seemed like a given. And yet, six years later, it still has not materialized. But now, we’ve learned that it’s officially happening.

Tracey Oliver – who co-wrote the film with Kenya Barris – told Variety that the film is “officially happening” and that they are eyeing having the film take place at a music festival in Ghana. The music festival in question, of course, would be Afrochella and would reunite Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish.

So there it is. Fans will still have to wait a bit, as Oliver hasn’t turned in her script yet. But the good news is, plans are now in motion for the sequel!
