The Grammy nominations for Best Comedy Album were announced this morning. And, as to be expected, Netflix dominated the competition, with only one non-Netflix album being nominated.
The Nominees are…
Quality Time (Jim Gaffigan)
Relatable (Ellen DeGeneres)
Right Now (Aziz Ansari)
Son of Patricia (Trevor Noah)
Sticks and Stones (Dave Chapelle)
If we had to predict the winner, we’d say Dave Chapelle has the edge on this one. But if anything has been proven before, it’s that these award shows are unpredictable.
Since Shelley Berman was the first stand up comedian to win for Best Comedy Album in 1960, some of the biggest names who’ve ever done stand up have taken home the prestigious award, including Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby, Lily Tomlin, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Cheech and Chong, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Rodney Dangerfield, Weird Al, Sam Kinison, Jonathan Winters, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., and Dave Chapelle.
Typically the awards for comedy are done prior to the broadcast, usually a few days before, so keep a look out for who won! And who knows, maybe it’ll be us next year…
