The 55th Grammy Awards take place Feb. 10 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and allegedly the comedy segment will not be televised. What bullshit! The six badass comedians who are nominated for the Best Comedy Album include Jimmy Fallon, Margaret Cho, Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin, Jim Gaffigan and Tenacious D. These artists are leading the next wave of comedy, making millions laugh, yet the snobs at CBS are choosing not to air the comedy portion of the Grammys. Screw you man, or woman. Screw you both equally!
Each day leading up to the Grammys we are providing breakdowns and our favorite moments each nominated comedian’s albums. If you haven’t heard their newest album, don’t be scared. In each post we will provide links to free videos and songs from your favorite funny people.
Jimmy Fallon not only has taken Late Night television to a new heights, he has taken the approach to making music albums to a completely different galaxy. We love it!
The single greatest thing about Jimmy Fallon and this album is that he gives credit where credit is due. He is no snob, like the tools we will see on the Grammys Sunday night, he is a true gentleman. Jimmie gives “shout-outs” to writers and staff members who help him create such amazing scripts and songs.
Why stick with boring routines wrapped in post-production gimmicks when you can have original recordings in front of a live audience? Jimmy combines old and new music in a fresh, unique perspective. On this album Jimmy delivers content in a fashion that will have you listening to songs over and over again.
One of the reasons we listen to this album multiple times is because it is easy to laugh at the hilarious connections Jimmy makes between TV theme songs and previous hits. Check out the track on Blow Your Pants Off called “Neil Young Sings ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
Funnier yet is one of his tracks titled “The Doors Sing ‘Reading Rainbow.” Not only do many people remember the Reading Rainbow television theme song, many people think Jimmy actually sounds like The Doors and so do we!
Another angle to this album is Jimmy’s storytelling ability why strumming an acoustic song. One of my favorite lyrics and melodies on the album Blow Your Pants Off is called “My New French Girlfriend.” Just watch, listen and smile.
