In the years since Half Baked first came out in 1998, the film has gone onto achieve cult status. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that it featured Dave Chappelle a mere 5 years before he hit big with Chappelle’s Show. For years, fans have been waiting for a sequel. Well, now it seems like they’ll finally get their wish!
This week, we learned that Half Baked 2 is slated to come out next year from Universal. As of this time, the film’s original stars Chappelle and Jim Breuer are not in the film. However, it boasts a brand new cast and even has some returning cameos.
According to Deadline, who reported the news, the film follows “Darden’s character JR (the son of Chappelle’s Half Baked character Thurgood Jenkins) and his best friends Miles (Storm) and Cori (Young) as they search for the money to bury their other best friend Bruce (Courtney), who died from smoking the most powerful joint in the world.”
The film’s stars this time around are Dexter Darden, Moses Storm, Ramona Young, Ash Stantos, Joel Courtney, David Koechner, plus guest stars Frankie Muniz and Jeff Ross.
From the original film, Rachel True will return as Mary Jane, with Harland Williams returning as Kenny Davis.
Half Baked 2 was written by Justin Hires and directed by Michael Tiddes. Additional release information is still in the works.
