This probably won’t go down as funny as his other work for sure.
Harry Shearer is probably best known for his comedic work on This Is Spinal Tap in addition to his legendary work doing many voices of characters on The Simpsons. But he’s about to add filmmaker to his already impressive resume with his new documentary The Big Uneasy.
A New Orleans resident, Shearer financed, wrote and produced a film about the catastrophic failures taken by greedy politicians and the Army Corps of Engineers to prevent and protect the citizens of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
The documentary doesn’t focus on the human suffering depicted in the countless news reports and documentaries that have come since, rather it takes a look at the decisions made around the event and points out actions that weren’t properly made, leading to devastation that was just as much a human disaster as it was natural.
The documentary will play for one night only in 150 theaters on Monday, August 30th, the 5th year anniversary of the hurricane.
