Hasan Minhaj will host the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner
April 11, 2017 Sam Hasan Minhaj, News, Television, The Daily Show
Finally, only a few weeks out from the event, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has found its host: The Daily Show correspondent / stand-up comic Hasan Minhaj.
The WCHD, an annual gathering of political press, pundits, politicians, and assorted entertainment industry insiders, has been one of Washington’s biggest parties since 1914. The traditional event is typically hosted by a comic, and the evening includes plenty of good-natured ribbing and roasting of the current administration – which is why this year, for the first time, the President has declined to attend. For this reason, the WHCD’s hosting pick has been especially anticipated this year.
They’ve picked a perfect emcee in Minhaj, an accomplished and affable stand-up who has earned many fans with his upbeat Daily Show field pieces. The New York Times reports that Minhaj says it’s ““a tremendous honor to be a part of such a historic event even though the president has chosen not to attend this year. SAD!”
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner goes down April 29th; if you’re not too excited about it, Sam Bee will be hosting her very own counter-event, Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, on TBS the very same night.
