You know Sam Kinison is the king of bad asses when even Hell can’t hold him. That’s not to say that he has risen from the dead (although if there is a party on Earth he wants to go to I wouldn’t put it past him), but he is being honored by his fellow comedians for the hell he raised during his time.
Called Back From Hell: A Tribute To Sam Kinison, this special from Comedy Central remembers Kinison for the over-the-top lung screaming, hell raising, party animal man he was.
And while Kinison’s life as former Pentecostal preacher, turned notorious bad boy, crowned rock ‘n roll comedian is stuff of legend; it was his brilliantly sharp and observational comedy that made him one of the most respected and missed comedians nearly 2 decades later.
Back From Hell features rare footage of Kinison’s stand-up as well as in-depth and personal stories from comedians he worked with and inspired, like Chris Rock, Denis Leary. Norm MacDonald, George Lopez, Lewis Black, Kathy Griffin, and Richard Belzer.
The special will premiere on television Saturday, November 13th and the full DVD release will come a few days later on the 16th. If you have any Kinison fans on your gift list this is a no brainier. On top of being uncensored (which is the only true way to see Kinison), the DVD will have bonus features, rare footage of Kinison’s appearances, and interviews galore. If all this hasn’t put you in the mood to get some half naked women around you, drink a fifth of whiskey, and scream on the top of your lungs, we bring you one of our favorite Kinison appearances, from an early HBO special hosted by Rodney Dangerfield.
