Hot Streaks is a look at the times when comedians at the height of their power. Comedy comes in waves, and with it comedians ride the success of public adoration and creativeness. During these times (usually around 5 years), comedians are putting out some of their most successful projects. So with that being said, let’s take a look at some of the hot streaks some of the best comedians have out there.
Up This Week: Jonah Hill.
Hot Streak: 2006-2011
Key Projects: Accepted, Grandma’s Boy, Knocked Up, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bruno, Funny People, Get Him to the Greek, Moneyball.
Power Ranking: 8
Jonah Hill’s movie career seems to have taken a more serious approach as of late. Obviously he is still hilarious, but now that he is starting to take on some more serious roles, it is time to feature him on Hot Streaks. Jonah has the most recent hot streak to date. His good friend, Seth Rogen, had his streak end in 2009. With roles in Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Funny People, Jonah was able to land starring roles in Superbad and Get Him to the Greek. Some ma argue that his smaller roles were even funnier than his starring roles. He has lost weight, gained it back, and then lost it again, all while making movie theater audiences laugh for a very solid five years.
However, once Moneyball came out in 2011, we saw Jonah taking on a more serious role. And even though the movie was great, we didn’t see Jonah at the height of his comedy, but his acting is definitely noteworthy. His ranking of an 8 is a half point lower than his pal, Seth Rogen, who received an 8.5. The main reason for this is that Jonah hasn’t had as many starring roles. Sure he has always been funny in whatever movie he is in, but starring roles are what make actors great. He tried one out in The Sitter but that was not even close to prime Jonah Hill comedy. The only argument that can be made about his comedy nowadays is 21 Jump Street and This is the End. Other than that, Jonah had a very good five-year hot streak and we hope that his future projects are just as funny as the older ones.
