Last year, literally days before it was set to begin, the annual SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas was canceled for the first time ever due to the Coronavirus. It was the first shutdown of many that would come in the days that followed. But for 2021, the SXSW Festival will be back, and this time virtually.
Today, they announced the first slate of films to debut at the festival. Among those was a new documentary from Andrea Nevins, Hysterical. The film “is an honest and hilarious backstage pass into the lives of some of stand-up comedy’s most boundary-breaking women, exploring the hard-fought journey to become the voices of their generation and their gender.”
And as with any good documentary about stand-up comics, you need a pretty stellar lineup. And this film seems to have that. Featured in the film is some of the hardest working and funniest women in comedy including Margaret Cho, Fortune Feimster, Rachel Feinstein, Marina Franklin, Nikki Glaser, Judy Gold, Kathy Griffin, Jessica Kirson, Sherri Shepherd, Iliza Shlesinger, and more.
Following the SXSW premiere (date to be announced), the film will be released on FX.
