About a week and a half ago comedian Jay Leno was hospitalized after suffering severe 3rd degree burns on the left side of his face after a freak accident happened in his garage. He was clearing a fuel line when the gasoline caught fire and engulfed the comedian in the process. Reportedly burning parts of his face, chest, and hands.
Today, after 10 days of hospitalization, the 72 year old comedian was released from the Grossman Burn Center where he was treated for his injuries.
As he left he posed for a staff photo, giving the public its first look at the severity of his injuries, most notably looking like areas of his neck and left arm were impacted.
His doctor – Dr. Peter Grossman stated, “I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery.” Along with a hospital statement that “Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”
Grossman gave more details on the events revealing that Leno was underneath a car when the fire started and was pulled out from under the car, resulting in “pretty significant” burns that were a mix of deep second and some third degree burns to his face and hands. Those were the ones Grossman was most concerned about healing properly in addition to some deep ones on the face. So far Grossman performed one surgery for some grafting and Leno will need to undergo another procedure later this week. In addition to surgery, the comedian will also undergo hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
Grossman insisted, “I do anticipate him making a full recovery whether there will be remnants of this injury it is way too early to tell.”
Speedy recovery Jay!
