Jeff Daniels is speaking up about the possibility of a sequel to the 1994 classic Dumb & Dumber. While Daniels is currently holding down the anchor’s chair as Will McAvoy in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, he told the Daily Star that filming of the movie will begin in 2013. “We almost were able to kinda get it done this year, but they’re still working on the script,” he added, “Jim wants to do it. I want to do it and The Farrelly’s want to do it. We’re all hoping that’ll come together early next year.”
An IMDB page popped up for the movie with the title, Dumb And Dumber To but there’s no confirmation that’s the name they’ll actually go with once the 2014 release comes around.
Though a 2003 prequel Dumb And Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd was released, it didn’t star Carrey or Daniels or had Farrelly association. That movie did okay in the box office but didn’t capture the energy of the original. There’s definitely unfinished business for the D&D franchise. Early reports stated that Carrey wasn’t into the idea and his move toward more dramatic roles might have caused the hesitation to jump onto the sequel.
But as my grandmother always said, “if Jim Carrey is making movies with penguins, he mind as well be making a Dumb & Dumber sequel.” Nana was always kinda oddly obsessed with Jim Carrey.
