Jim Carrey plays a purgatory DJ on The Weeknd’s new album, “Dawn FM”

January 7, 2022      Andrew Buss      Jim Carrey, News

What if, when we die, Jim Carrey is the soothing voice that is welcoming you into purgatory? Well, in The Weeknd’s new album at least, he is.

At midnight last night, The Weeknd dropped his latest album, Dawn FM. The surreal concept album features the Canadian comedian/actor – who is now a friend/neighbor to the musician – on the opening and closing tracks, taking on the role of a radio DJ welcoming you to this new dimension. Carrey says on the opening track, “We’ll be there to hold your hand and guide you through this painless transition.”

It’s about as surreal and eerie an opening as one can imagine. And it is in tune with the rest of the album. And when you consider Carrey’s “There is no real me” and “We’re not actually here” statements of the past, then there’s clearly no better choice to guide you into… well, whatever is next.
