In a move that is not entirely surprising, Jim Carrey announced via Twitter that he will no longer portray Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live.
“Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President… comedy’s highest call of duty,” Carrey tweeted. “I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that s–t. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”
Carrey’s portrayal of Biden was met with mixed reactions, with some praising the comic and others stating that he was just playing Jim Carrey as Joe Biden (they’re not entirely wrong there, either). Of course, there’s already been a long line of Biden portrayals including Kevin Nealon, Woody Harrelson, Jason Sudeikis, and even John Mulaney.
But now that there’s 17 people on the show’s current cast, maybe it’s time to give one of them a chance to shine in the role? Just a thought.
