Jim Gaffigan is largely identified as a comedian, naturally. But over the last few years, we’ve seen Gaffigan taking on more bold dramatic roles in independent films like Chappaquiddick, Light From Light, and American Dreamer. And now, he’s about to take on his latest one.
Today, it was announced that Gaffigan has signed on to portray controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in a new limited series for AMC. The darker series will detail Ford’s rise and fall as Mayor from 2010 until 2014 when video was captured of him smoking crack cocaine.
Jesse McKeown will write and executive produce, alongside executive producers Ed Helms, Mike Falbo, and Michael Dowse. Dowse is also slated to direct.
We can’t wait to see this, and we can definitely imagine Gaffigan doing well with the part. No word on when production is slated to begin, however.
