Jim Jefferies, one of the hottest comedians around today and host of The Jim Jefferies Show on Comedy Central, is making a move towards NBC.
Yesterday it was announced that NBC has ordered a put pilot from Jefferies and company. A put pilot differs from a traditional pilot in that it is basically guaranteed to be aired by the network as a series or special. Failure to do so would result in the network paying a substantial monetary value to the studio, in this case Universal TV.
At this time, not much is known about the put pilot, which is to be produced by Jefferies, Suzanne Martin, and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner with their production company Hazy Mills. All that we know is the series, written by Jefferies and Martin, will be Jefferies portraying a fictionalized version of himself “and his unique take on modern life and the complexity of relationships”.
“I grew up watching the greatest sitcoms ever — Cheers, Frasier, Seinfeld and Friends — so when I had the chance to work with NBC, I jumped at the opportunity,” Jefferies said in a statement. “I look forward to hopefully adding my new show to that list.”
Anyone who knows Jefferies as a stand up knows of his gift to properly tell a story that takes you on this journey, a story that you can’t imagine coming from anyone else’s mouth or life experience. It seems almost tailor made to who he is, not just as a person but as a stand up. So it will be interesting to see how that particular voice will be able to translate to a network sitcom. It will probably help that Jefferies himself is both writing it and playing himself, as he had done with Legit, instead of playing a character. But regardless, anything that has Jim Jefferies involves means we’re totally in on this!
