Heavy metal and stand up comedy have had a pretty long history with one another. Whether it was Sam Kinison’s rendition of Wild Thing or Brian Posehn’s music video for Metal by Numbers, headbanging and stand up seem to go hand in hand. Now public metal head and stand up comedian Jim Norton is expanding his mark on the metal world. Luckily we don’t have to endure the bald comedian doing any kind of singing, but he will be the host of another metal show on satellite radio. Norton already hosts the Jim Norton Show on Sirius/XM, and as of today started Jim Norton–Obsessed on the Boneyard.
His new show will be on The Boneyard Sirius Channel 19 and XM Channel 53 and will feature a heavy metal show with a different theme every week. The first show was “first tracks” from favorite albums, and future shows will feature themes like “songs I Play When I Want my Girlfriend to Leave the Room,” “Favorite Title Tracks from Albums,” and “Favorite Cover Songs.”
Norton is on his way to building a metal brand for himself, and assuming the shows take off (which I don’t see why they wouldn’t) Jim Norton could be the new Matt Pinfield for our generation. He already has a head start with the shaved head.
