Jimmy Fallon responds to criticism and backlash over TikTok dance segment

April 6, 2021      Andrew Buss      Controversy, News, The Tonight Show

A week ago, Jimmy Fallon had a TikTok personality, Addison Rae, on The Tonight Show for a dance segment that encompasses multiple trending dances from TikTok. It was your typical fare from Fallon. Nothing seemingly out of the ordinary going on.

However, the next day, Fallon and company found themselves dragged through the mud. Many had issue with the fact that the show failed to credit any of the original creators, whom were predominantly black. However, after a week off, he decided to address the issue by inviting as many of those original creators as possible to have them show off the dances themselves.

This is unfortunately not an uncommon issue, where a show of a larger stature benefits off the creativity of others without credit ever being given. That being said, it is still a nice gesture to see that Fallon took the time to distribute credit where it’s due, even if it is only after the fact.
