If you were to ask us whether or not there would be an Emmy Awards ceremony held this year, we would’ve told you chances are most likely not. After all, basically everything else is being put on hold for this year, even things slated for later this year around the same time as the Emmys. So the announcement that Jimmy Kimmel would be hosting this year’s Emmy Awards definitely came as a surprise.
“I don’t know where we will do this or how we will do this or even why we are doing this, but we are doing it and I am hosting it,” Kimmel said in a statement in response to the news.
“We know Jimmy Kimmel will deliver a uniquely entertaining, funny and moving Primetime Emmys show,” Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, said in a statement. “He’s a true master of ceremonies who reveres this industry and its people; and just as Jimmy has done with his own show over the past few months, he will tackle this momentous event with heart and humor, and bring some much-needed joy and optimism to our television colleagues and viewers at home.”
As of right now, the Emmy’s will be broadcast on September 20th as planned. As we’ve all seen, though, plans definitely can change. Either way, if all else failed, this may be the year of the first Zoom Emmy Awards.
