With the summer months approaching, and with the future of taping talk shows in front of a live studio audience still uncertain, Jimmy Kimmel has announced that he will be taking the summer off as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
“I’ve been doing this job for almost 18 years,” he said on his show last night. “I’ve done 3,130 shows. And there’s nothing wrong, my family is healthy, I’m healthy, I just need a couple of months off.”
For the next two weeks, the show will be on a hiatus. Following that, for the summer, we will see a variety of celebrity guest hosts. That list may or may not include Matt Damon, who judging from the video, has found a good place to stay during the coronavirus.
It is interesting as far as the timing of this announcement goes, given that he just was named as the host of the 2020 Emmy Awards a few days ago. So something tells us he will also be using this time off to get ready for whatever that winds up looking like in September.
