The late night wars are really going to start to fire up after the Olympics. With Jimmy Fallon taking over The Tonight Show he will now compete with Jimmy Kimmel for the next generation of late night TV followers. And how do the two find younger demos? They head to Austin in mid-March for the yearly South By Southwest (SXSW) festival which runs the gamut of pop culture including music, tech, comedy, and the recent addition of sports.
Jimmy Kimmel and his crew seem keenly aware of this for today they announced their plans to pack up Jimmy Kimmel Live from the confides of their West Coast studio and taking the show to Austin. Jimmy Kimmel Live will tape and air five new shows on March 10th – 14th at the Lozano Long Center For The Performing Arts in downtown Austin.
Bravo plans to return for a second turn with it’s Watch What Happens Live late night show. However we’ve heard from a few different sources that Kimmel isn’t the only late night host that will be in attendance in Austin this March. Word on the street is that Jimmy Fallon and possibly Seth Meyers will both have a presence in Austin to help with the promotion/awareness of their new late night lineup. So SXSW might be the kickoff to a lot of late night fun with the Jimmys.
