Joe Pera reveals his “next project” on Late Night with Seth Meyers

July 22, 2022      Mike Seigel      Joe Pera, News

Joe Pera took to social media on Wednesday to tease his “next project,” which he promised to announce on that night’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Pera let fans down easy by letting people know ahead of time that no, Joe Pera Talks with You is not going to magically return. Other than that, the project remained a surprise.

And surprise it was. With all the build up and suspense that comes as part of Pera’s methodical comedic delivery, Pera revealed to Meyers and the world some exciting news.

“Just the following week, I got a phone call. They’ve asked me to be the next James Bond.”

Pera revealed that the new movie, titled James Bond!, would be taking the character in a whole new, more Joe Pera-like direction.

In case it somehow isn’t clear, this was all a joke, made funnier by the careful buildup, and even funnier if you watched it expecting some big revelation. Pera then showed several “clips” of the movie, which consisted of crudely filmed footage of Pera walking, swinging a garbage bag around and eating some food.

“I don’t see how this doesn’t work out for everybody,” Pera laughed.

Of course the joke is meant as a tease to fans, who were hooked into the bit by Pera’s earlier postings. But there also was a real announcement for non-fans, although it’s not new to people in the know – Joe Pera is going on tour again.

There has been heightened focus on what’s next for the comedian, as he recently announced that his Adult Swim show Joe Pera Talks with You will not be returning for a fourth season. Even though this announcement did not give any clarity on what the future holds, it more than made up for it as a great bit. For now, fans will have to be content with an upcoming tour and possibly a stand up special soon too. Stay tuned.
