Joe Rogan’s club, Comedy Mothership, opens tonight in Austin
March 7, 2023 The Laugh Button Staff Joe Rogan, News
Ever since Joe Rogan first announced that he was moving to Austin, TX from California, there has been talks of Rogan opening a comedy club. There were a few false starts, dating back to 2020. But now, the comedy club is coming to fruition.
The club – Comedy Mothership – officially opens up tonight. The venue has a long history, dating back to the 1920s as a movie theater. It was closed in the 60s and reopened in the 70s as – you guessed it – an adult theater. It then became a punk rock venue, a music venue, a movie theater again (Alamo Drafthouse), and now finally a comedy club.
The club, which will be located on 6th Street in Downtown Austin, will feature two stages – Fat Man and Little Boy. It will also feature a bar, Mitzi’s Bar, named after the late Mitzi Shore who founded The Comedy Store where Rogan called his home club for years in LA.
The first show will naturally be Joe Rogan & Friends, featuring a lineup that is yet to be announced. Rogan will be headline tonight through Thursday and again next week. As you can imagine, Rogan’s run has already sold out.
His pal and now Austenite Tony Hinchcliffe’s Kill Tony will also take residence at the club, kicking off on Monday. Future shows have yet to be announced nor is the club expected to be part of the already-announced SXSW Comedy lineup.
