On Monday, John Candy was unexpectedly trending on Twitter. This was because of the announcement of a new release of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, which starred Candy and Steve Martin.
Ryan Reynolds then took that as an opportunity to announce a new project that’s in the works.
“With John Candy trending, I’ll just say I love him,” Reynolds wrote on Twitter. “So much so, @maximumeffort is working on a documentary on his life with @colinhanks. Expect tears.”
Yes, Reynolds’ company Maximum Effort is indeed working on a new documentary with Colin Hanks about the late comedy legend. The film is currently untitled, but the news was confirmed by Candy’s daughter, Jen, on Twitter.
“Boom! So looking forward to working on this with them and our family,” she wrote. “This project is in great hands.”
Candy is certainly deserving of a movie. Throughout the 1980s and early 90s, Candy was seemingly everywhere, starting with SCTV and parlaying that success into movies like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, Delirious, Splash, Brewster’s Millions, Home Alone, and many more.
