John Mulaney and Andy Samberg fill in for Jimmy Kimmel

Earlier this week, Jimmy Kimmel announced that he had COVID again for the second time in 3 weeks. It was a similar situation to what happened with Stephen Colbert. And while the first time around he enlisted Mike Birbiglia, this time, John Mulaney and Andy Samberg stepped in.
Both Mulaney and Samberg were originally supposed to be guests last night. This lead Mulaney to quip “Only on this show can you be bumped from guest to host.” During the monologue, where they were dressed head to toe in swag, they talked about finding their rhythm as a new comedy duo, Samberg’s love of wax museums, their new movie, and their retirement from late night.
They then moved over to the desk, where they took turns interviewing each other and then eventually Cheryl Hines. And yes, they got in plenty of plugs for Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers.
This is the only new episode airing this week. The next two nights will feature reruns, before we imagine Kimmel returns to the show on Monday.
