If you are John Mulaney and you have no children and no musical talent, what do you think your next logical move is for a comedy special? Well, you take a group of children and make a musical variety show for Netflix, that’s what you do. Oh, and you release it on Christmas Eve for all the families to watch. That’s right, on December 24th, John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch is set to release on Netflix. It’s those shows you grew up on as a kid, but filtered through the brain of Mulaney. So think shows like 3-2-1 Contact, The Electric Company, or other shows where children interacted with the celebrity of the week. For the celebs, Mulaney wrangled a wide variety of guest performers for musical numbers including the likes of David Byrne, Natasha Lyonne, André De Shields, Richard Kind, and Jake Gyllenhaal. With that premise and those guests we’re guaranteed at least an interesting time.
Netflix just released the trailer, lay your eyes on it.
