Last month Jon Stewart went before a House committee and basically shamed the half-empty room into doing what they should’ve done years ago and that’s get a clean bill that supports 9/11 First Responders and their mounting healthcare needs as they get sicker and sicker directly due to their work at ground zero. The clip went viral and the committee (including those that couldn’t be bothered to show up that day) unanimously passed the re-authorization of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.
But said bill also had to pass the senate to go into law and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was already taking shots at Stewart before it went to the Senate saying the Senate always addresses this bill and he’s not sure why Stewart is so upset. Stewart took shots back at him as McConnell on Late Show w/Stephen Colbert but McConnell has since promised to work to bring the bill to the floor before congress takes its break this August where the hope is that it will pass.
Today, Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee obstructed the re-authorization of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund because, well, we learned that it is possible to stack sh*t that high and cover it with flesh and prop it up in the Senate. They cited the need for further debate on the issue.
In what should be a shock to nobody, Jon Stewart is not having it tonight he took to Fox News with first responder John Feal as he called what’s happening an abomination. Taking a particular shot at Paul’s “fiscal responsibility virtue signalling”
