“Just For Laughs” announces virtual festival this fall

July 22, 2020      Andrew Buss      Just For Laughs, News

Earlier this week, we announced that Just For Laughs would be doing a week long virtual event on Sirius to commemorate when there would typically be a festival in July. The plan was initially to reschedule the in-person event for the fall.

Well, as things happen, that fall in-person event was postponed. But to make up for it, they did announce another virtual component. Starting on October 9th, Just For Laughs will hold a 2 day virtual comedy festival featuring interactive online gatherings, panels, conversations, performances, events, and more. And while the schedule and event specifics are going to be announced in the coming weeks, they have an idea of what’s in store on an all new digital platform.

“More than ever, we want to maintain our position as an industry leader by creating innovative comedy events that allow our artists to work and to make the highest-quality comedy available to the public,” says Charles Décarie, President and CEO of the Just For Laughs Group in a statement. “Despite all the changes our industry has been going through, the most important thing for us is to satisfy our festival-goers. We’re sparing no effort to present the best festival possible, while respecting the health measures that are in force.”

“With no precise indication of when borders will reopen, and faced with soaring demand for high-quality digital comedy content, we’ve made the decision to move our festival online, while always maintaining our focus on the excellence of our offerings – an excellence that is recognized and appreciated throughout the world,” added Bruce Hills, President for Just For Laughs.

And while the news about it being postponed is definitely disappointing, it really is what is best right now. And we look forward to being back in Montreal sometime in the future!
