Kevin Michael Richardson to replace Harry Shearer as Dr. Hibbert on “The Simpsons”

February 22, 2021      Andrew Buss      News, Television, The Simpsons

Harry Shearer is the latest white performer to step aside from voicing a person of color on television.

Since the character first debuted on The Simpsons back in the early days, it’s gone on to become a show staple. But along with Hank Azaria’s Apu, which he stepped down from portraying last year, the show has come under fire for it’s portrayal of the two characters being done by white men.

His replacement will be the prolific voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson. Richardson has had a long career as a voice actor, including previously appearing in 76 episodes of the popular show since 2009. He will make his debut as Hibbert in the upcoming episode Wad Goals.
