Back in July, Kevin Smith surprised everyone (including his own daughter and partner in crime Jason Mewes) with the news that he’s been considering bringing the idea of Clerks 3, the follow up to his 1994 cult indie film Clerks, back to the table.

There was a time, back in 2012, when Kevin Smith first announced Clerks 3. That went on for a couple of years, before becoming dead in the water. But this would be a brand new concept for the characters of Dante and Randal, something that better reflects who Kevin Smith is as a person today, as he told the audience at Comic Con.

The one obstacle has always been the involvement of one of the reluctant stars, Jeff Anderson. However, at a recent private autograph signing organized by LeeLoo Multiprops that brought the two together for the first time in years, Kevin Smith made the official pitch to Jeff Anderson. And this morning, it became Facebook official.

“It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga,” Smith said in a Facebook post. “It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of #newjersey. It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and @briancohalloran, with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called CLERKS III!”

As of last night, he mentioned that he has officially began writing the script. For Kevin Smith fans, this is big news. But until then, you can catch his newest film Jay and Silent Bob Reboot in theaters in a few weeks. Tickets can be found at http://www.rebootroadshow.com
