Kevin Smith is sort of living proof that everything in life can all come full circle if you want it to badly enough. Case and point is his newest business venture.
On Facebook today, he announced his latest venture. Along with friends Ernie O’Donnel and Jeff Swanton, as well as Ashley DiGennaro of LeeLoo Multiprops, Smith will be taking over the Atlantic Highlands theater in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. This is the same theater where Kevin’s father used to pick him up after school to take him to movies. And he’ll be naming it: Smodcastle Cinemas.
“This certainly isn’t about an investment deal,” he told NJ.com. “This is about owning a little piece of my personal movie history, a building that helped forge the filmmaker that I would become.”
The movie theater will feature artwork from all his movies, including expansive murals. It will also feature tons of movie props, courtesy of LeeLoo Multiprops. Other events at the theater will be midnight screenings of his movies, a chance to watch all the new Marvel movies with Kevin Smith, and even a chance for the kids on Saturdays to watch movies with his Mooby mascot.
Not only is he moving into the theater, he’s literally moving upstairs. He’s also rented out the apartment right above the theater, which he’ll stay in whenever he’s back in town.
Plus, he even plans to be shooting his next film at the theater. Titled The 4:30 Movie, the film is set in 1986 and follows “3 suburban teenagers as they theater hop a spring Sunday away, sneaking from flick to flick, like we did as kids.”
He also teased yet another new venture. Next summer, he’ll be opening up a Jay and Silent Bob Film School in the theater.
So if you’re a big Kevin Smith fan, he’s got a lot in the works for you!
