When Larry David first showed up on a cold open earlier this season as Bernie Sanders, the world collectively declared two things – 1) That makes total sense! and 2) it would be great if Larry David hosted the show himself. So when the folks at Saturday Night Live declared that Larry would host a full blown episode for the first time (really?), it made us all giddy. While David himself will try his best to lower expectations about how the night will go, the rest of us are anticipating one of the best episodes of the season.
And we got just that.
David, who briefly wrote for the show back in his yesteryear, was breezy, fun, and unabashedly Larry David. Bending the show more toward his comedy sensibility than the other way around. In many ways it was an hour of Larry David Live and for a full 5 minutes and 22 seconds (Bern Your Enthusiasm) it was the best of both worlds.
Cold Open: Message From Ted Cruz
The night’s cold open attempted to find out just how bland a person Ted Cruz is, turns out that is pretty, pretty bland.
