Late night tackles the overturning of Roe v Wade

June 28, 2022      Andrew Buss      Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night With Seth Meyers, News, The Daily Show, The Late Late Show, The Late Show

As everyone knows by now, the Supreme Court announced the overturning of Roe v Wade Friday morning. While we’ve known that the decision was being internally discussed for well over a month now, it obviously didn’t make the Friday morning ruling any easier to digest.

Last night, late night hosts decided to tackle what was going on. Some hosts, such as Seth Meyers, decided to mostly sit out of the conversation, but instead allow his writers Amber Ruffin, Jenny Hagel, and Ally Hord have a very important discussion on it with president of Planned Parenthood Alexis McGill Johnson.

Jimmy Kimmel has been off for the summer and has had guest hosts joining. One of the guest hosts previously announced was Chelsea Handler. Handler took the monologue to address the overturning of Roe v Wade and give her take on it.

Stephen Colbert also addressed the topic in his monologue. But more interesting, his first guest of the night was Wanda Sykes. When Colbert asked how she was doing, she responded “I’m a black gay woman who has a daughter, so I’m not doing so well right now.” From there, he had an honest and raw conversation with Sykes on the matter.

Check out some highlights of late night hosts addressing the news below.
