The passing of Garry Shandling is a big one to the comedy community. There’s no way to measure his impact from his early stand-up days to his two groundbreaking TV shows. The comedy world is continuing to pay tribute to the late comedian. Shandling had a presence in late night, hell, The Larry Sanders Show gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how late night comes together. So with that, the late night television tributes came in for Shandling.
Seth Meyers
While Meyers hadn’t known Shandling well, he was hugely influenced by The Larry Sanders Show and he and Jason Sudeikis bonded over the show.
Conan O’Brien
Conan opted to forgo the evening’s monologue, instead talk about his friend stating, “this is a devastating shock to me and just about everyone we know.” Latter calling Shandling “supremely innovative.” Conan also talked about how Garry helped him get through one of his lowest moments, which was loosing The Tonight Show.
Conan continued his tribute to Garry by airing a clip from a previous appearance.
Jimmy Fallon
Fallon got back on the air last night and re-aired part of Shandling’s first appearance on The Tonight Show when he got the call over to the couch from Carson. Fallon topped the tribute of with a performance of the iconic theme to It’s Garry Shandling’s Show with The Roots.
