There’s nothing better than a good horror movie, especially around Halloween. But for every Halloween, there’s a Halloween 3-8. And while many scary movies have gotten increasingly derivative, sometimes the best place to go to make a film or story stand out is to make it funny. So with that in mind, here are some horror movies that are funny, some comedy movies that have horror elements or a mix of the two.
The Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
After 1983’s The Evil Dead established Sam Raimi as a director to watch, he essentially remade the film in 1987, but as more of a comedy. The movie still has plenty of jolts in it, but it’s also hysterical, owing more to 3 Stooges than anything involving Jason, Freddy or Michael Myers. The scene when protagonist Ash Williams’ hand gets possessed and starts breaking dishes over his head is comedy gold.
